To ‘rework’, Tejinder withdraws plea against Army Chief from SC

Retired Lt Gen Tejinder Singh withdrew his plea against Army Chief Gen V K Singh from the Supreme Court today.

Appearing before a bench of Justices P Sathasivam and J Chelameswar, Tejinder Singh's lawyer Rajiv Dhawan said the "allegations need reworking", as he sought "liberty to withdraw to file before an appropriate forum.''

"Your Lordships, please don't open the file at all. Kindly grant me permission to withdraw the petition and move the appropriate forum," Dhawan told the court. The Bench then granted permission for withdrawing the petition.

Dhawan told The Indian Express that certain words like "treacherous'' needed to be removed from the petition. He said an "appropriate forum'' would be either the Delhi High Court or the Armed Forces Tribunal.

Earlier, the case list showed that Singh wanted the court's permission to "play video clips and file secret recording and confidential written statement of the petitioner under sealed cover".

The ex-Army officer had approached the Supreme Court on April 25, seeking a CBI inquiry into the Army Chief's alleged role in "bugging" the Defence Minister's office and action against him for "misconduct". The government has denied reports of bugging.
