To save the Himalayan glaciers,YouTube queen sings in Paradise

“I want the world to come to the rescue of Himalayas. Climate here is going through a profound change without much awareness about this,” Naomi told The Indian Express

on the Kongdoori mountain in Gulmarg. “I hope the leaders debating climate change at Copenhagen will focus on Kashmir and the Himalayas.”

Naomi is on a two-week tour of India,and has already performed in Mumbai,Bangalore and Delhi. She is scheduled to perform in Srinagar Monday; the concert,titled ‘Say It’s Possible’ is focussed on climate change.

Naomi said places like Kashmir were bearing the brunt of environmental pollution beyond their geographical boundaries. “The areas most affected by climate change are the areas least responsible for the rapidly changing climate. I am hoping that I can help motivate people and their governments around the world,particularly the West,to take climate change more seriously and take the responsibility to find a way to slow the damage we are doing to the planet,” she said.

Monday’s concert at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre will include Naomi’s online music videos and appeals to support grassroots environmental projects in Kashmir. “Terra is here to make contribution to the cause of the environment in Kashmir. The disappearance of glaciers in Kashmir has implications far beyond the borders of the state. And it is time the world takes note of it,” said Usman of Mercy Corps,the international development agency that has organized the concert.
