Toilet Training
Rural development minister Jairam Ramesh's recent remarks that toilets are more important than temples may have not been taken too kindly by the BJP and Shiv Sena but his ministerial colleagues seem to be in agreement with him. Minister of State for Corporate Affairs (independent charge) Sachin Pilot is convening a meeting of industry representatives on Tuesday where he will urge companies to construct toilets, especially for women, in rural schools from their corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds. "They can be named Tata toilet or Ambani toilet or Bajaj toilet, but sanitary facility is a must in rural areas where girls do not go to school only because of lack of separate toilets for them," Pilot said. The new Companies Bill, to be tabled in Parliament this winter session, proposes to make it mandatory for corporate entities worth Rs 1,000 crore and above to set aside 2 per cent of their profit for CSR funds.

However, unless the government appoints at least two new members in the next few days, SAT will be without any member, since Moorthy's term also ends next month-end.
