Tom bags Director’s Guild trophy for The King’s Speech

'The King's Speech' helmer Tom Hooper has won the top prize at Directors Guild of America

‘The King’s Speech’ helmer Tom Hooper has won the top prize at Directors Guild of America,for the film based on the real life story of king George VI’s struggle to overcome stammering.

The 38-year-old British filmmaker who recieved his first trophy in the feature category was also nominated for a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award,besides being in the race for the BAFTA and an Academy Award,reported Los Angeles Times online.

“Oh my god. I am so grateful to my wonderful cast. I am overwhelmed. This is the highest honor of my life,” said Hooper.

With 12 nominations,’The King’s Speech’ is leading the list of most nominated films for Academy Awards.

The DGA Awards are most reliable bellwethers for Academy awards as out of the past 62 years,only six times the choices differed.
