Konkona Sen Sharma wants to do a love story next

This is the year of fun for Konkona Sen Sharma. The actor, who is known for her serious and experimental work, will be full of light-hearted stories. The comedy Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge to be released on March 5 will be followed by the April movie,Vinay Shukla’s Mirch, which she calls a sassy drama. Also in April is Rituparno Ghosh Sunglass, which will be released in both Bengali and Hindi,“It’s a humourous film where once I wear sunglasses,I will be able to know what people around me are thinking.” With all the comedies coming up,she is sure the much-needed image makeover will happen this year.

Sharma maintains that she does not prefer what is called parallel cinema. “People have this notion that anything that is parallel cinema will be good. They come to me with scripts and expect me to take up anything that they label as non-commercial,” she says,“While I fully support the cause of small-budget films and experimental ideas,I can’t do any generic role. I need something to excite me.”

Currently she is inspired by actor Naseeruddin Shah, who,in a recent interview, talked about love and his character in Ishqiya. “I really do want to be part of a love story,” she smiles. While Wake Up Sid could be called a romantic flick, she refers to it as a coming-of-age film, not an intensely romantic one. “Naseerji said that after all these years he got a chance to play a love-struck man for the first time. It’s then that I realised I haven’t played a role like that either,” she says.

Despite a successful phase in Bollywood, the 30-year-old,who was launched by her mother Aparna Sen in the Bengali film Ek Je Aachhe Kanya, isn’t ready to give up her career in regional cinema and will soon be seen in her mother’s next,Iti Mrinalini. “I don’t have an agenda or career plan that I want to stick to. I just want to do films that interest me,language is not a barrier at all,” says Sharma.
