Sanjay Dutt case - Timeline

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed Sanjay Dutt's plea seeking review of its judgement in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.
Here's the timeline of all the developments in the case.

1. Sanjay Dutt, son of veteran actor and Congress MP Sunil Dutt, was convicted in November 2006 for illegal possession of a 9mm pistol and an AK-56 rifle but was acquitted of more serious charges of criminal conspiracy under the now defunct anti-terror TADA.

2. Sanjay Dutt has already spent 18 months behind bars during the trial and will now have to serve three and half years in jail.

3. On March 12, 1993, Mumbai was rocked by a series of blasts, engineered by fundamentalist elements.

4. The blasts occurred at 12 places including Bombay Stock Exchange building, Air-India Building at Nariman Point, at Worli opposite Century Bazaar, Hotels Sea Rock and Juhu Centaur.

5. Dawood Ibrahim, Tiger Memon and his brother Ayub Memon were alleged to be the main conspirators of the blasts and they were declared as proclaimed offenders.

6. Property worth Rs 28 crore was destroyed in the explosions in which RDX was used for the first time in the country.

7. After a marathon 10-month-long hearing beginning November 1, 2011, the Supreme Court had in August 2012 reserved its verdict on appeals and cross-appeals in the 1993 Mumbai serial terror bombing case in which 257 people were killed and 713 were injured.

8. The apex court will pronounce its verdict on a bunch of appeals and cross-appeals filed by and against 100 people including Sanjay Dutt who were convicted by the special TADA court in 2006.

9. 100 people were convicted out of which 12 were awarded death penalty and 20 were given life sentence by a TADA court.
