Even as the Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday sought a CBI probe into the mysterious death of Khalid Mujahid,an accused in the 2007 serial blasts in Lucknow and Faizabad courts,an FIR has been lodged against 42 people, including some senior police officers and Intelligence Bureau (IB) officials. Among those named are retired Uttar Pradesh DGP Vikram Singh, former ADG (Law & Order) Brij Lal,former Additional SP of the Special Task Force (STF) Manoj Kumar Jha and Deputy SP Chiranjeev Nath Sinha who was the investigating officer in the Lucknow blast case before it was transferred to ATS. A case of murder and conspiracy has been registered following the complaint filed by Mujahids uncle,Zaheer Alam Falahi, under IPC sections 302 and 120-B. Meanwhile,Barabanki SP Syed Wasim Ahmad said an autopsy which was conducted this morning could not ascertain the cause of death and no ante-mortem injuries were found on the body. He said doctors have preserved Mujahids heart and lungs for a pathological test to check if he died of cardiac arrest or heat stroke. The body has been handed over to his family members. Confirming that the UP government has recommended a CBI probe,a home department spokesperson said the documents in this regard have been sent to the Centre. Mujahid died on Saturday while returning to the Lucknow district jail after attending court proceedings. He was declared brought dead at the district hospital in Barabanki, after he reportedly fainted in a police van on the way to Lucknow. Earlier, the state government had sought to Top cops among 42 named in death of blast accused withdraw the charges against the 30-year-old and another alleged operative of the HuJI,Tariq Qasmi. But a local court in Barabanki rejected the governments plea on on May 10. Stating that he had spoken to the police team and other undertrials accompanying Mujahid,SP Ahmad said Mujahid had complained of uneasiness after the court hearing, but he fainted before he could be provided any help. In his complaint,Falahi has alleged that Mujahid was falsely implicated in the blasts case. He has said that Mujahid was picked up from Jaunpur district on December 16,2007,but the STF claimed that he was arrested from Barabanki on December 22,2007 and showed false recovery of explosives from his possession. Falahi has further claimed that the R D Nimesh commission, which was set up by the state government to probe the case, found that Mujahid had been falsely implicated. Based on the panels findings, the state government sought to withdraw the charges against Mujahid,he said.
