Tourism dept inks pact with Jungle Lodges and Resort

To promote wildlife tourism in the state,the Punjab tourism department has signed a memorandum of understanding with Jungle Lodges and Resort,a public sector undertaking of Karnataka government. JLR will train nearly 25 people as ‘nature guides’ under an eco-tourism project.

To promote wildlife tourism in the state,the Punjab tourism department has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Jungle Lodges and Resort (JLR),a public sector undertaking of Karnataka government. JLR will train nearly 25 people as ‘nature guides’ under an eco-tourism project.

According to Vidya Bhushan Kumar,Special Secretary,Tourism,the ‘nature guides’ will guide visitors coming to different wetlands and bird sanctuaries in the state.

Karthik,the chief naturalist of JLR,visited Ropar and

Nangal Wetlands,besides Tibba Nangal sanctuaries,last week,along with the officers of forest and wildlife departments of Ropar district. “I am here to have first-hand experience of these wetlands and sanctuaries and will train the nature guides accordingly,” he said.

Kumar added: “The chief naturalist will visit all four major wetlands,including Harike Pattan in Ferozepur and Keshwapur in Gurdaspur and other sanctuaries of the state. After that,he will formulate a training programme. A set of criteria will be prepared for the selection of candidates who will be trained for a certificate course.”
