A toy library for children that lends out games like Monopoly and Power Rangers

Santa would approve and of course,so do the Delhi children. Tucked in a narrow lane in Gulmohar Park there is no signage that leads to it,however, kids are bound to notice plastic horses and swings placed near the entrance of Kids Gurukul. The exterior hints at the range of toys that might be indoors, where lined on a shelf is a range of Disney puzzles and magnets in plastic boxes in the shapes of English alphabets, fruits and vegetables. “Children tend to get bored of a toy very soon and parents end up wasting a lot of money. We operate as a toy library that allows children to enjoy a variety of toys and books without purchasing them,” says Vinita Gupta, the promoter of Kids Gurukul. The Jalgaon-based toy library opened in Delhi earlier this month. Catering to children between the age of two to 12,this has over a thousand toys, books, games and CDs. “The stock has been selected after research on the fasting moving toys among Delhi kids,” adds Gupta.

So if board game enthusiasts can choose between Monopoly,Battleship,Pictionary and Scrabble among others, there are also CDs of popular movies like Kung Fu Panda and Jurassic Park and for avid readers Kids Gurukul has books from the Enid Blyton Famous Five series,Panchatantra tales,Alladin and cartoons such as Power Rangers,Ben 10,Winnie the Pooh and Spiderman.

The procedure for renting is simple. The choice is between two membership plans. While the Gold plan, which has a fee of Rs 350 per month, allows members to rent products worth Rs 900 at a time,Platinum membership, with a fee of Rs 600,allows them to take home products worth Rs 1,500. Four circulations are allowed each month and members can renew products every week. Renting of a product worth over Rs 1,500,however,requires an additional deposit which is approximately two per cent of the MRP. “This is to take care of damages,” says Gupta who even offers home delivery within a six kilometer radius. With another branch of Kids Gurukul operating in Noida,Gupta is zeroing on areas across Delhi and the NCR to open more libraries. Parents can now avoid the toy trap.
