A garment exporter was killed after a container toppled on to his car around 6am on NH 8 on Friday.
Subodh, a resident of Lajpat Nagar in South Delhi, and younger brother Pramod were on their way to Jaipur in their Honda City.
After they crossed the toll plaza at Kherki Dhaula, a trailer carrying a container tried to overtake their car near Sikkhopur crossing. However, when Subodh applied the brakes suddenly, the trailer hit his car from behind and the driver lost control as a result. The container slipped on to the car, crushing its right side completely.
The police said both vehicles were speeding. “The container fell on the right side of the car, crushing the driver. Pramod, however, had a narrow escape since he was sitting on the passenger side,” the investigating officer at the Kherki Dhaula police station said.
A case has been registered under sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC for causing death due to rash and negligent driving at the police station. The police have impounded the trailer, the driver and helper, however, managed to flee.
