It is a busy time for more than 1,400 members of the Asia’s largest association — United Cycles Parts and Manufacturers’ Association. The campaign for election to various posts in the association is in full swing. To woo voters, dinner and cocktail parties are being organised every evening by various groups even as members struggle to make up their mind on who to vote for.
The election buzz is surrounding the entire bicycle cluster of Ludhiana. Hoardings and banners can be seen at Industrial Area in Focal Point and even in the mixed land use areas where members of this association reside in large numbers.
“This election is more important than any other, as almost every industrialist is involved in canvassing for one group or the other these days,” said Inderjit Singh Navyug, who is contesting for the post of president.
D S Chawla, his rival contestant, was busy campaigning today with his entire group on scooters in the mixed land use areas like Dashmesh Nagar, Janta Nagar etc.
Chawla said, “A majority of us drive the latest models of cars, but today we campaigned on scooters. In these congested areas, it is not possible to travel in a convoy of cars and hence we preferred to save our time and managed to meet the members personally in the bargain.”
The members who drove scooters after a long time enjoyed every bit of the ride, the experience. Though it may surprise some, but the candidates are busy campaigning for 18 hours in the campaign.
