Train runs leaving behind five coaches at station

The incident occurred when the Canning-Sealdah local left Sonarpur for Narendrapur in Sealdah South section of the Eastern Railway.

The engine of a 12-bogey local train sped away after leaving behind five of its bogies at a station here on Monday night after a coupling that joins two coaches snapped,railway sources said.

The incident occurred when the Canning-Sealdah local left Sonarpur for Narendrapur in Sealdah South section of the Eastern Railway at about 8.45 pm.

The coupling joining its seventh and eighth bogies snapped the moment the train started from Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas district,causing five of its rear coaches remain in the platform,the sources said.

The guard used his walkie-talkie to contact the driver and the front coaches of the train moved backwards and returned to Sonarpur,where the coupling was repaired.

However,instead of resuming its journey,the train was sent to the car-shed at about 10 pm after the passengers were offloaded,the sources said.
