After just two months with the national team,Human Performance Analyst Jesus Garcia Pallaress sudden resignation citing personal reasons has left several unanswered questions. Pallares has not only foregone his salary and perks for September,he even bought his own ticket to return to Spain without formally informing the ministry about his date of departure. India's Spanish coach Jose Brasa said the reason for Pallares's departure was that he had not received the high-end training equipment he had asked for including handy-cams,game-analysis software, and ultra-sound and laser therapy units. Jesus was not comfortable in Pune. He had many complaints about the food and the accommodation. He was most frustrated about the fact that he was not provided with necessary equipment and so he could not produce any results, Brasa said, adding that his recent marriage could have also been a factor. But some officials are saying that Pallares had a falling out with Brasa, and that the two had not been on good terms for a while now. There was a definite problem between them. Though both were concerned about the lack of modern equipment, they were not always of the same opinion, one official said, adding that Brasa was keen on getting his first-choice trainer David Perez, who had been unavailable when the Indian hockey contracts were finalised. I have suggested Perezs name to Hockey India to try and convince him to come at least till the World Cup, Brasa said on Thursday. But Hockey India officials are keen to get someone who can be with the team for a longer period,at least till the Asian Games. Regular delay When contacted about the lack of modern equipment,Virendra Bhandarkar,a SAI assistant director, said the delay was not inordinate. The equipment that he (Pallares) wanted had to be imported. It was very costly, around Rs 8 lakh,so the processing time was longer. If he had had a little patience,he would have received the equipment within the next 15-20 days, Bhandarkar said. Team sources in Pune said that Pallares had a meeting with the team officials and players late Wednesday evening, and informed them that he was leaving form Mumbai later last night. This was a complete shocker. He was with us during the Europe tour and yesterday, after the evening session,he just walked up to all of us and said he would no longer continue with the team, a player said. Another player added: He was good for us we were finally training like we do with the European clubs. Hockey India has appointed MV Mathai as the trainer, till a suitable replacement from abroad could be found.
