A four-day training programme on “Farming system approach” oragnised by Punjab Cultural Management and Extension Training Institute (PAMETI) concluded here on Friday. The programme was attended by 21 officers from various departments like agriculture, fisheries, horticulture, dairy development, soil conservation and forestry.

Informing about the programme, Dr SPS Brar, Director, PAMETI, said that all the four natural resources namely soil, water, solar energy and human labour should be used effectively to raise productivity per unit area. “This is possible if farming system plan is prepared keeping in view the availability of all these resources coupled with access to marketing. This will also generate work for the family labour throughout the year,” added Dr Brar.

At the closing session, Dr MS Gill, Project Director, Cropping System Research, Modipuram (UP), informed there were 19 different farming system categories which could be adopted. He then discussed possible combinations of different categories and the percentage of profits that could be increased with integration of different farming systems.
