Transport unions call strike on Feb 20-21

Employees of the UP State Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) have announced a two-day strike on February 20 and 21, threatening to bring to a halt the movement of around 10,000 buses across the state.

The employees are pressing for the redressal of issues related to salaries, promotions, dearness allowances, payment of arrears of the Sixth Pay Commission, regularisation of contractual employees and jobs to dependants of employees who die in service.

The strike is being organised by the Parivahan Nigam Karmchari Sanyukt Sangarsh Morcha, an association of six different employees unions of UPSRTC.

Morcha president Ramji Tripathi said, "We are left with no option as the government is not fulfilling our demands for a long time." Tripathi said that a strike notice had been given to the government. He said around 4,000 buses are engaged for Kumbh Mela on main bathing days, and over 1,000 buses on other days.
