These were the "fees" allegedly being charged by a Rohtak-based transporter in Haryana, who lured people into giving him money in exchange for government jobs that he promised to provide them. The transporter, Avnish Mehta, has now been booked on charges of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

According to the Rohtak police, a "cash-for-jobs" racket was being carried out in the district for the last two years and Mehta was the prime accused in the case.

While Mehta is absconding, his wife and son — also accused in the case — have applied for anticipatory bail, which was denied by the court of Additional Sessions Judge in Rohtak.

The FIR against Mehta included the names of his wife Alka Mehta and his son Anchit Mehta, an IAS officer, as being a part of the racket.

"When the case was registered, the prime accused Avnish Mehta went underground. We are conducting raids at his suspected hideouts, but he is yet to be traced. Once he is arrested, we will be able to proceed in the investigation," Sub-Inspector Umed Singh said.

According to the FIR, a resident of Rohtak, Jaikishan, had claimed that he and his wife had paid Rs 10 lakh to Avnish Mehta to get him recruited as an SSA teacher and his wife as a clerk.

However, despite all of Mehta's assurances, he neither returned the money nor got them the jobs.

Jaikishan, who hails from New Delhi, had worked with Mehta for two years in the transport business. It is during this period that he paid Mehta Rs 10 lakh in exchange for jobs.
