Tree plantation drive carried out at Punjab Engineering College on Bank Day

A tree plantation campaign was carried out by the State Bank of India, Chandigarh, as a part of the bank's Go Green Campaign on Wednesday in the campus of the Punjab Engineering College (PEC). The campaign was to commemorate Bank Day on July 1, a tradition carried out by the bank every year.
NK Chari, the Chief General Manager of the State Bank of India, Chandigarh Circle and Punjab Engineering College Director Manoj Datta planted shrubs and trees inside the campus.
Area councillor Saurabh Joshi and senior functionaries of the bank were also present on the occasion and planted saplings. Joshi said that the plantation drive will be continued in the entire ward. A total of 100 saplings were planted in the drive on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Chari said that the bank's branches in Chandigarh Circle had started the tree plantation campaigns on Bank Day and would continue the same till the end of August.
While interacting with the students of the college, Chari appealed to them to nurse at least one tree each and look after it until it grows. He said that this would help to ensure that the PEC campus remains verdant and pollution free.
Chari also spoke about about the bank's various initiatives of corporate social responsibility, such as the adoption of girl children, providing of ambulances and vans to charitable organizations and orphanages, donating of fans and kerosene heaters to schools and arranging of cancer awareness program and check-up camps.
