Tricity continues to give solid support to Anna Hazare

Support for Anna Hazare and the Lokpal Bill continued to increase in the city with more people joining the cause.

Support for Anna Hazare and the Lokpal Bill continued to increase in the city with more people joining the cause. Chamber of Chandigarh Industries while expressing solidarity with the cause taken up by Hazare said that corruption is the main hindrance in the rapid growth and development of the country. The members stated that Hazare’s vow against corruption has taken the shape of a mass movement as the common man has joined him.

Market associations in various sectors came out in support of Hazare. In Sector 19 the traders under the leadership of Jagdish Kapoor expressed solidarity with the cause taken up by Hazare. A candle light march was also held in Sector 35 market.

The fast being observed by three members of Lions Welfare Society including L K Khurana,Vinay Kumar and Davinder Sahni entered its second day. The members are sitting outside the CBI office in Sector 30.

Student Human Rights Network,an NGO of the students of Centre for Human Right and Duties,Panjab University started a chain hunger strike to support Anna Hazare and Jan Lok Pal Bill today at the Student Centre,Panjab University. Ten students would sit on a fast from 10 am to 7 pm daily. The fast will continue till the demands are met.

A signature campaign was flagged off by the students. A simplified version of civil society’s proposed bill and its salient features were also circulated at the Students Centre. Faculty members,non-teaching staff also extended their support to the cause.

ABVP dharna

Student organisation Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad ( ABVP) organised a one day dharna in support of Anna Hazare who is striving for eradication of corruption from the country. The dharna was organised on the campus of Panjab University opposite Gandhi Bhavan.

Panchkula campaign

The residents of Sector 20 Panchkula held a signature campaign in the market of the sector. Around 300 people signed on the banner. Lawyers staged a sit-in outside District Courts,Panchkula,in support of Anna Hazare raising slogans like ‘Long Live Revolution’.

Another sit-in was organised by Bharat Swabhiman trust outside Deputy Commissioner’s office where also slogans were raised in favour of Hazare. A protest march was organised at Express roundabout,where retired army officers and residents of Sector 6 participated. Gen VP Malik (retd) also participated in the event.

PGI placards

The entire faculty of PGI gathered in front of the Kairon Block Complex of PGI. The doctors carried placards of “Corruption Quit India”,“Corruption Free India”. Dr Virendra Singh,President of the Faculty Association echoed the sentiments of faculty members and proposed that faculty would wear black badges from tomorrow to show solidarity with Anna Hazare¿s Corruption Free India Campaign.

Ambala agitation

Members of several social,religious and political organisations extended full support to the anti-corruption movement. The agitators staged day long dharnas that was led by Art of Living unit chairman Sushil Godavri and followers of Guru Ravi Shanker remained on fast. Architects and Engineers Association,Anti Terrorist Front of India and educational institutions extended full support. In the evening the citizens held candle march through the main bazaars with candles.
