Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has accused the CPM of resorting to rigging to win eight of the nine seats that the party won this time.
Speaking to mediapersons at her Kalighat residence on Sunday, Banerjee said in districts like Bankura, Purulia, West Midnapore and Burdwan, where the party failed to win a single Lok Sabha seat, the CPM had rigged the elections.
“We lost eight seats by a very thin margin and I am sure that the CPM has rigged the elections in these areas,” she said.
She also added that she would lodge a complaint with the Election Commission about the counting in Balurghat Lok Sabha seat where her party lost to the RSP by a slender margin of 5,105 votes.
Terming the verdict given by the voters in Bengal as a miracle, she said, “Left is totally left out, not only from Bengal, but also the country.”
She expressed hope that in the next Assembly elections, her party in alliance with the Congress will get more than 200 seats.
“We believe in people and we will have to win the coming Assembly elections in West Bengal. Saturday’s results have given a clear indication that the people have rejected the CPM. As far as our results are concerned, Trinamool and the Congress have got between 205 and 207 of the total 242 Assembly segments in the state. I am not sure about the numbers, but I am confident that we will win the next Assembly elections,” she said.
