Union Finance Minister and West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) president Pranab Mukherjee today said the Congress has reached an electoral adjustment with its ally Trinamool for the upcoming bypolls to 10 seats in the state.
As per our understanding, the Congress will contest three seats of Kalchini,Sujapur and Goalpokhor and the rest seven would be contested by the Trinamool, the state Congress president said.
Mukherjee also described the Congress decision to bag the post of the mayor in Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) with support from the Left Front as an exception.
We sought support from all political parties to form the civic body as our party had bagged the maximum number of seats in the SMC. Some political parties had given their support to us while some others refused. However,Siliguris case is an exception, he said.
The state Congress president, however, added there had not been any talks with Mamata Banerjee about holding joint campaigns for the November 7 Assembly bypolls.
I have not yet spoken to Mamata Banerjee about joint campaigns. I will be busy in the coming few weeks and our leaders can discuss the issue with our election partner, Mukherjee said.
