Trinamool discusses Bengal law and order scene with Centre

Trinamool Congress held discussions on the law and order situation in West Bengal with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister P Chidambaram.

Trinamool Congress held discussions on the law and order situation in West Bengal with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister P Chidambaram,hours after raising the issue in the Lok Sabha.

“We discussed the issue of indiscriminate police firing on innocent people in the name of fighting the Maoists. The incident occurred in Salboni area where one person was killed and five others were injured,” said party Chief Whip in Lok Sabha Sudip Bandopadhyay.

The matter was raised in the office of Mukherjee,where the Congress leader cut a cake brought by Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee to mark his 75th birthday.

Chidambaram was also present on the occasion. Claiming that the law and order situation in the state was “worsening day by day”,Bandopadhyay said “we sought protection for democratic movements launched by the common people of the state.”

He said Chidambaram assured that he would enquire about the matter.

Bandopadhyay said one Biplab Saha was killed in the firing and five others,injured in the firing,were recuperating in a local hospital.

“None of these people have any Maoist links or any police record,” he claimed.

The Trinamool leader said the Left MPs created a din in the Lok Sabha when the matter was raised by him. He said the Trinamool leaders had brought up the issue of law and order situation with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last week.
