Even as Trinamool Congress chief and Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee raises pitch for the withdrawal of joint forces from Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia, her partymen today accused the joint forces of refusing to help a party member who later died of bullet injuries.
Khagen Majhi, a Trinamool Congress supporter in Ulta village of West Midnapore disrict was shot at, allegedly by CPM goons, on Sunday evening while he was in his shop. A profusely bleeding Majhi was brought home. The family claims that when they rushed to the camp of the joint forces requesting them to lend a car, they were denied help.
With no car available for ferrying the injured man, Majhi died around 10.30 pm in front of his family members comprising six brothers, his wife and 10-year-old daughter, said Majhi’s relative.
“Around 7 pm, CPM goons came and shot him. Since there was no car available in the village, we went to the camp for help. But they abused us, called us Maoists, and even threatened to shoot us. We requested them to lend us a car so that his life could be saved. But they refused,” Paran Maity, cousin of Majhi, told The Indian Express.
Nimai Majhi, the deceased’s father said: “My son died without treatment. Who is responsible for this? How long will we, the poor people, live like cattle?”
Angry Trinamool supporters staged a demonstration outside the camp protesting against the behaviour of the joint forces.
