Trinamool Congress workers, led by Leader of the Opposition in the state legislative Assembly Partho Chatterjee, today gheraoed the Barasat police station protesting against the attack allegedly by armed CPM activists in Sashan in North 24-Parganas.
On Tuesday, one person was killed and 10 were injured in the clash between Trinamool and CPM activists in Sashan over capture of bheries (fishponds).
Ranjan Barui, a Trinamool supporter, who was admitted to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on October 27, has slipped into coma on Thursday.
“We have already lost one of our activists, Nur Ali Alam, who was shot dead in the clash. Ranjan has also slipped into coma. According to doctors, there is little chance of his recovery. He, too, was shot by the armed cadres of the CPM,” said Jyotipriyo Mallick, observer of Trinamool Congress.
According to Mallick, a complaint has been filed against Majid Master, a CPM activist, who was allegedly seen firing at Alam.
“We have filed a complaint at the Barasat police station and asked the Superintendent of Police to take immediate action against the armed cadres of the CPM. However, the police did not pay any heed to it. Tomorrow, we will go to Sashan,” said Mallick.
Chatterjee said: “We have submitted a deputation to the police. All these violent clashes and murders of our supporters have become a regular feature in the district because of police inaction.”
“How the CPM cadres are loaded with sophisticated arms and what the district police are doing here? If the police do not take prompt action, we will opt for bigger movements,” said Chatterjee.
