Trinamool rebuts CPM allegation, denies link with Maoists

Trinamool Congress said it neither has any connection with the extremists nor supports its ideology or action.

Rebutting CPI(M) state secretary Biman Bose’s allegation that the party has links with the Maoists,Trinamool Congress on Friday said it neither has any connection with the extremists nor supports its ideology or action.

“Bose is known for talking nonsense. We have repeatedly said we have no connection with the Maoists and we don’t support their ideology or action,” senior Trinamool Congress leader Saugata Roy said.

Roy,who is also the Union minister of state for urban development, said Nandigram was a mass movement where the Maoists played no significant part.

“The movement (Nandigram) was led by Trinamool Congress, whereas in Lalgarh, the people’s movement has been pushed towards the Maoists by some police action of the CPI(M)-led state government,” he added.

Leader of the Opposition and senior Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee said Mamata Banerjee had never encouraged violence while taking up causes of the people.

“Her 26-day hunger strike in Kolkata against forcible land acquisition at Singur and also the 21-day dharna at Singur on the same issue are glaring examples of our commitment to non-violence,” Chatterjee said.

“We are reiterating that what is happening at Lalgarh is the CPI(M)’s internal factional fight. It is the fight between ‘haves and have-nots’ of the CPI(M),” the Trinamool Congress leader.

Chatterjee said,”If we had supported the Maoists, then how did the CPI(M) win six Lok Sabha seats in Bankura,Purulia and West Midnapore? We are urging Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee not to have double standards. We urge all democratic forces to protect life and property of the people of Lalgarh.”

The TMC leader said,”Need of the hour was not bullet, but development, food, shelter and education for the Adivasis.”
