Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee renewed her demand for the state government to return 400 acres from the small car factory project area in Singur.
“We want the state government to abide by the agreement that was signed on September 7 in the presence of Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi. We agreed to the meeting only on the request of the governor,” Banerjee said on Thursday.
She alleged that though the agreement had clearly stated that “maximum land” will be given from within the project area, Commerce Minister Nirupam Sen had later informed the party that they will receive only 70 acres.
“During the talks, the Tatas suddenly decided to pull out. Mysteriously, within four days, they found a new site in Gujarat,” she said. The Trinamool chief further alleged that even after the pull out, the copy of their agreement with the state has not been made
public. According to her, the whole mystery of the Tatas pulling out and moving to Gujarat will be solved once the agreement is made public.
Senior Trinamool leader Sougata Ray said: “The CPM needs to remember that the agitation in Singur was suspended and not withdrawn. If need be, we will revive the agitation. The state government cannot just show the site to investors and think of alternative projects to come up in the area.”
Banerjee also said that at least four potential investors had contacted her. “Before investing, they wanted to discuss the matter with me,” she added.
