Shiv Kant Tripathi, who filed a case of fraud against Amar Singh, his wife and Amitabh Bachchan last week, had performed a month-long yagna before the Lok Sabha elections to propitiate gods to make BSP supremo Mayawati the Prime Minister.

"No one had asked me to perform the yagna, it was my sixth sense which told me that Mayawati had all that it takes to be the Prime Minister. Therefore, I performed the yagna," said Tripathi, who claims to be a priest.

Tripathi claimed he had sought no BSP aid for the yagna. "I have never been a member of BSP or any other party, and the case against Amar Singh is not politically motivated," he added.

Local BSP leaders said they had never heard about Tripathi until he shot into the limelight last week. "I have never seen him, or met him," said Salim Ahmed, BSP leader in charge of Kanpur Lok Sabha constituency. Similar was the reaction of Sukhda Mishra, the BSP's Lok Sabha candidate.

In 1994-95, Tripathi was associated with Congress MLC Jagendra Swaroop, but his association with the Congress was short-lived. Swaroop said he removed Tripathi when he started getting complaints of misuse of his local area development fund.

Sources in the state government said the registration of the FIR on the night of October 15 took top officials at the police headquarters and in the Chief Minister's Office by surprise.

“We first heard of it when the media started making inquiries'', said a senior officer.

YAGNAsBy: NIRANJAN | 20-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward WE INDIANS WANT EVERYTHING THE EASY WAY AND NOT EARN IT. WE THINK THE YAGNA CAN REPLACE HARD WORK, GOOD STRATEGY AND PLANNING AND HONESTY. IT APPEARS THAT RELIGION HAS TAKEN OVER LIVES AND WE FAIL TO DO ANYTHING WITHOUT CONSULTING A SEER OR SOMEONE ON THE MATTER. MAYAWATI COULD HAVE BEEN PRIME MINISTER IF SHE HAD NOT FOLLOWED THE PATH OF STATUES AND MONUMENTS AND INSTEAD FOLLOWED THE PATH OF DEVELOPMENT OF THE POOR AND THE DALITS. IF SHE HAD, BY NOW THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN TREATING HER AS A MESSAIAH AND PERFORMING AARTI AT HER PHOTO. ALAS, OUR POLITICIANS ARE TOO SHORT SIGHTED AND TOO DEPENDENT ON THESE SEERS AND CHARLATANS. THE CASE OF 45 CRORE CROWN FOR A DEITY IS PRIME EXAMPLE OF THE SUPERSTITION OR FOR THAT MATTER STUPIDITY!
Superstitions and ritualsBy: k madhukar | 20-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward This Tripathy apparently belongs to the preistly class who make a living out of gullible ,perpetuating superstitions, rituals etc.Politicians visit Temples and other places of worship, under the glare of publicity ,thinking that devotee voter takes notice and may favour him at the hustings.A business man who has to bribe his way to be successful, thinks that costly gift to God ,well publicized ,would guarantee him a first class position in the next world. It is not un natural for him to think that God can also be bribed. There is no point in blaming such politicians and business men.We should blame those people who encourage such blind beliefs and shamelessly make a living out of religious rituals and superstitions.
why so much hype on filing a f i r By: urvashi sharma | 20-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward filing a f i r is a normal process . it is investigation that will lell the truth. we should appreciate filing of f i r even against high profile people as it shall boost democratic values and inculcate faith in the minds of common man.
