Troops have not been removed from Jammu and Kashmir: Mirwaiz

Chairman of moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umer Farooq claimed that troops had not been removed from J-K as stated by Antony.

Chairman of moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umer Farooq on Friday claimed that troops had not been removed from Jammu and Kashmir as stated by Defence Minister A K Antony.

He termed the statement of the defence minister about troops withdrawal as “mere announcement”.

“When were the troops withdrawn? Who saw them leaving Jammu and Kashmir. It is mere announcement,” Mirwaiz said addressing Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid in old city.

“Military camps are intact and full of army personnel. Mere announcement (about withdrawal of troops) cannot lure Kashmiris,” he added.

“The government makes promises but never fulfil them. There are more than five lakh army in Kashmir and no step is being taken to remove them,” Mirwaiz alleged.

Earlier,Antony said two army divisions comprising 30,000 men have been withdrawn from Jammu and Kashmir following improvement in the situation in the state.
