Trouble for Kalmadi,CBI files another FIR in Swiss firm deal case

The CBI did not reveal the names that figure in the FIR but said Kalmadi and CWG Organising Committee general secretary Lalit Bhanot were instrumental in finalising the deals.

In fresh trouble for Suresh Kalmadi, the CBI Thursday registered another FIR in connection with a Rs 71.82 crore contract awarded to Swiss firm Event Knowledge Services for the Commonwealth Games.

The CBI did not reveal the names that figure in the FIR but said Kalmadi and CWG Organising Committee general secretary Lalit Bhanot were instrumental in finalising the deals.

This case was also looked into by the Shunglu panel that probed the CWG scam. The panel found gross negligence and said a criminal case can be registered. In April,2011,the Prime Minister’s Office referred the case to the CBI,which found that the firm was hired as international consultant in 2006,much before approval was sought from the Group of Ministers.
