A 19-year-old boy was mowed down by a speeding truck in Cantonment area on Friday. The victim’s sister also sustained serious injuries.

While the erring truck driver, Dilip Kumar, was arrested, the locals blocked the Rae Bareli road for over half-an-hour.

The deceased, Anuj Kumar Singh, resident of Pawanpuri Colony of Ashiana area, had gone to Subhanikhera crossing in Telibagh to pick up his sister, Kajal, who is a Class V student of Army Public School. “After the bus dropped the girl at Subhanikhera crossing, the duo were about to leave for home on a bicycle when a speeding truck (UP32 BN 4297) hit them,” said Jatashankar Mishra, SHO, Cantonment.  

While Anuj succumbed to injuries on the spot, Kajal was taken to the Trauma Centre, where she is battling for life.  

The locals got hold of the truck driver on the spot and thrashed him till the time the police reached the spot.
