The International Roerich Memorial Trust life trustee Shakti Singh Chandel has sought extra security at the trusts property at Naggar in Kullu district and has written to Chief Secretary Rajwant Sandhu about it on Monday. Chandel,a retired IAS officer,has earlier written to Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal seeking an inquiry into the functioning of the Roerich Art Gallery. In Mondays letter,Chandel who pointed out The Indian Express report about two Roerich paintings disappering from Delhis Indian Agriculture Research Institute,wrote that there were apprehensions that a lot of things have disappeared from IRMT Naggar. The store stock-taking or verification has not taken place for the last 10 years. We do not know as what all is in our inventory. I was in Moscow during the third week of September 2011. There,the Russians have expressed apprehension that lot of things have disappeared from IRMT Naggar, he wrote. Claiming that his repeated pleas are not being given attention,Chandel threatened to go on a hunger strike if the state government fails to take precautionary measures and also order a probe into the IRMT affairs at Kullu. But a senior government official said,Sufficient measures are already in place at the Roerich Art Gallery,Naggar and curator at the gallery has already been told to update the inventory.
