Turf war: Four of family held for setting eunuch ablaze

The Vadodara police arrested four persons of a family on an attempt to murder charge

The Vadodara police on Saturday night arrested four persons of a family on an attempt to murder charge for allegedly setting a eunuch on fire at Bhutadi Jhampa in Sayajigunj area of the city.

The incident had occurred early last week.

The victim,Salma Kunwar, suffered nearly 40 per cent injuries and was admitted to the SSG Hospital, the police said. An officer added that the arrests were made after Salma named Naina Vasava alias Nilesh Kunwar (also a eunuch),her father Chandu Vasava, mother Suman Vasava alias Tini Maasi, and brother Paresh alias Pariya Vasava in her statement.

They further said that it was a case of rivalry among two groups of eunuchs over their “areas of operation” along the Delhi-Mumbai railway route.

Salma told the police that Naina along with Paresh had attacked her on March 8 because she was begging for alms on a Mumbai-bound train.

Inspector H J Keen said: “However,we found that Naina attacked Salma because the latter did not have an identity card. Naina had her identity card to prove that she belonged to the eunuch community with her area of operation between Bharuch and Mumbai.”
