TV helps you grow with your characters: Gurdeep

The 'Sanjeevani' star said her marriage was never a hindrance in getting back to work,as her characters grew with her.

Television actress Gurdeep Kohli of ‘Sanjeevani’ fame,who makes a come back after a gap of two years with her new show ‘Best of Luck Nikki’,says marriage was never a hindrance in getting work as her characters age and mature fast on small screen unlike films.

Gurdeep who shot to fame as Dr Juhi of ‘Sanjeevani’ will be is seen in Disney Channel’s ‘Best of Luck Nikki’ as Himani Singh,playing mother to four children. “Marriage has never been an obstacle to get work for me. Television helps you grow with your characters. I have grown with my shows. Characters mature very fast on television and in cinema it is different,” Gurdeep,who was on a sabbatical after having a baby,said in an interview.

Four years ago,Gurdeep had married her co-star from ‘Sanjeevani’ Arjun Punj and now has a one-year-old daughter. “In India in films heroines have to romance on screen so they have to be young. When I joined television I got roles where my actors were romancing me on screen. When I started growing my characters also grew. Like in ‘Sanjeevani’ I got married,in ‘Sindoor…’ I had a baby,I had older children in Kasamh Se’,” Gurdeep said.

‘Best of Luck Nikki’ follows the life of an average Indian family comprising mother,father and siblings as they all attempt to handle the newest family entrant,baby Nikki. About the serial,Gurdeep said,”I wanted to get back with a different genre and wanted to do comedy. The show fell in place with my frame of time and mind.”

The show is aired every Sunday at 11 am.

The 30-year-old actress has essayed the role of Vedika on Zee TV’s ‘Sindoor Tere Naam Ka’ and played Bani Walia in the hit daily soap ‘Kasamh Se’.
