  • A journalist working with TV channel News X died on Tuesday in what appears to be a case of regular food poisoning.

Tariq Anwar, 31, a cameraperson with News X, had gone to watch a T20 match at the Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium on Monday. After consuming food and beverages there, Anwar went home.

Towards midnight, he started vomiting and was taken to Bansal Hospital in New Friends Colony, sources said. Doctor Sanjeev Bansal from Bansal Hospital said: “The patient came to us in a critical condition. He was vomiting throughout, though his condition appeared to have been caused by regular food poisoning. His condition was worsening, so we recommended that he be taken to AIIMS.”

At AIIMS, Anwar was declared dead on arrival. “He seems to have eventually choked on his vomit and died because of lack of oxygen,” Bansal says.

Anwar’s colleagues were shocked at the turn of events. “When Tariq went home he even he even updated (his status) on Facebook. This is a huge shock and completely unexpected,” one of his colleagues said.
