Twenty students test positive for swine flu

Twenty students of Class IX from Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri,South Delhi,reportedly tested positive for swine flu after returning from an outstation tour.

Twenty students of Class IX from Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri,South Delhi,reportedly tested positive for swine flu after returning from an outstation tour. “Students from our senior secondary school had gone for a trip to a place near Shimla,” Principal Sanskriti School,Abha Sehgal,said. “After coming back,they tested positive for the virus.”

The school authorities,meanwhile,closed down the section of the Class IX. “The positive cases came to our notice since last Saturday (October 3) after the trip and we had closed down the senior school for one week,” Sehgal said.

The classes reopened today.

On Monday,meanwhile,one more positive case of H1N1 virus was reported from the school. “One more student of Class III A has tested positive for swine flu,” the school authorities said. Earlier,on October 7,a positive case was reported from the same class (Class III A).

“The school has asked parents to monitor their kids closely for any swine flu like symptoms and to take necessary precautions,” the authorities said.

Recently,ten cases of swine flu were also reported from Shri Ram School,Aravalli,Gurgaon,after their students returned from a trip from Amritsar. Principal Sudha Sahai,had said that the trip was voluntary and that there were “no sudden swine flu cases.” The trip was organised for Class VI students.

Till date more than 1,500 children have tested positive for the H1N1 viral strain in the national capital.

“Parents have the responsibility to inform the school in case their child shows symptoms of swine flu. Schools,too,should do medical checkups of the students from time to time,” Rajiv Mahajan,a parent said.
