Two attempt suicide; bridges fast becoming suicide points in city

Ellisbridge police Inspector J B Gadhvi said: “The girl,Varsha Jayantilal,a resident of Behrampura took the extreme step after her husband refused to give her some money for the religious rituals to be performed at the Dashama Temple. During her questioning,the woman said she was upset with her husband’s behaviour.”

The Fire and Emergency Services said that while rescuing Varsha,they found the unidentified body of a pregnant woman aged approximately 22.

The body was sent to V S Hospital for postmortem and further investigations are on to find the deceased’s family and whereabouts.

Incidentally,today’s incidents were not isolated cases.

Bridges across the Sabarmati are fast turning up as suicide points,if statistics are anything to go by.

Only a day earlier,two women jumped to death in the Sabarmati from Nehru Bridge,and two days ago,two college students committed suicide by jumping from Ellisbridge.
