Two burglars held,cops say one part of Rs 2.5 cr Saket robbery

The Special Staff of West Delhi police claimed to have busted a gang of burglars with the arrest of two of its members.

The Special Staff of West Delhi police claimed to have busted a gang of burglars with the arrest of two of its members. The police said one of the arrested accused,Dharmender Kumar (25),was also involved in Rs 2.5-crore theft reported from Saket recently.

The police identified the other accused as Mohammed Karim (19),and said Rs 29.4 lakh cash,jewellery and valuable documents have been recovered from the duo.

According to the police,a theft of Rs 2.5 crore was reported from M-1,Saket on November 16 — Kumar worked as a security guard here. The accused were arrested from Khatu Shyam Stadium in Hari Nagar,the police added.

“During interrogation,Kumar said he hails from Agra,UP,and belongs to an economically backward family. He and his wife came to Delhi in 2005 and he started working as a security guard,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sharad Aggarwal said.

According to Aggarwal,Kumar committed his first crime in 2007,when he stole brass items from a factory where he worked as a guard. He was arrested. After coming out of jail he took up a job as a private security guard with Scanner Private Security Agency and was deployed at M-1,Saket.

“He came to know about the cash transactions in the office and hatched a plan with his friends Mithlesh,who works as a plumber in Saket area and Sushil,who works as a driver. On November 16,Mithlesh used his plumbing skills to open the doors and cupboards in the office,while Kumar and Sushil damaged the CCTV cameras installed there,” DCP Aggarwal said.

The accused later distributed the Rs 2.5 crore among themselves,the police said.
