The Shahjahanpur district administration on Friday ordered an inquiry into an incident in which two deaf and dumb children ran away from their camp undetected and later died in a train accident on Wednesday.

The camp, which was being run under the Basic Shiksha Adhikari of the district, has been dissolved and all children sent home.

There were 30 children in the three-month integrated camp for deaf and dumb students which started in January. It was supposed to have special arrangements for their education and recreation. The camp staff included a teacher, a warden and some others, who were working on contractual basis.

District Magistrate Ritu Maheshwari said the inquiry would find how both children slipped away from the camp and also what was the reason. Action would be taken on the basis of the inquiry report, said the DM.

The two children who died in the accident were identified as Kapil Kumar and Nisamuddin, both around 12 years of age.

On Wednesday morning, the Government Railway Police was informed by villagers of Harsiya that bodies of two boys are lying on the railway tracks. The GRP and officials of Roja police station rushed to the spot, but did not find anything which would help identify the children.

According to police, in the evening, two employees of the camp visited the police station and said that the children from their camp and had been missing since Tuesday.

Station Officer of Roja police station Rama Shankar said he asked the employees of the camp to call families of both the boys to confirm their identity.

"We had doubts over their claim because in the morning when the bodies were found, they were also present on the spot but did not claim or identity the bodies. In the evening, they came and claimed that both the boys were from their camp."

On Thursday evening, the family of Nisamuddin visited the police station and confirmed his identity.
