Two city students chosen for Maths Olympiad

City-based Gaurav Patil and Sameer Wagh are among the six Indian students selected for the 50th International Mathematics Olympiad 2009 to be held in Germany from July 10-22.

City-based Gaurav Patil and Sameer Wagh are among the six Indian students selected for the 50th International Mathematics Olympiad 2009 to be held in Germany from July 10-22.

While Gaurav is in class XI at Modern College,Shivajinagar,Sameer is also in class XI in MES Abasaheb Garware College. The duo had joined Bhaskaracharya Prathishthan from class VIII for Olympiad training.

They had also participated in a month-long training camp organised at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) in Mumbai from April 29-May 27. Gaurav and Sameer aspire to join IIT and are undergoing IIT-JEE training at a private coaching class.

The other four students in the team are Anant Shankar from Tamil Nadu,Shubhadip Choudhary from West Bengal,Akshay Mittal from Delhi and Akashnil Dutta from Kolkata.

The team will be led by professor C R Praneshachar of Mathematical Olympiad Cell,HBCSE,TIFR,Bangalore and the deputy leader of the team will be Dr Zafar Ahmed from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre,Mumbai. Professor S A Katre from the University of Pune will accompany the team as an observer.
