Two councillors’ groups set to go on study tour

A similar number would be part of the other group while some are opting not to go to any of these destinations. Numerous tussles among political parties have been witnessed this year. The situation became such that Opposition councillors were suspended. Last year the councillors had gone on a ‘study tour’ in October.

With the elections scheduled for this year,the councillors have opted for an early tour. Such trips in the past have failed to yield much.

Most of the recommendations have not been implemented. While reports of the tours were prepared,there is not much to show on ground.

In fact,last year the study tour had become an issue of controversy after then Mayor Anu Chatrath wanted to accompany both the groups of councillors. After being on one of the tours,she asked for the second trip to be postponed by a couple of days.

The members of the second group had alleged that it was because she wanted to be a part of the second tour and officials were not agreeing to it that the delay was being sought. It had led to a tussle among the councillors that continued for days.

A few years ago,a controversy had arisen after a trip of one group of councillors to Singapore and Bangkok. After that no other group had not been able to visit these places.
