Two youths were arrested for allegedly molesting two women in Rohini Sector 3,Outer Delhi,on Wednesday night after an argument over crossing the road.
The accused were arrested after the victims raised the alarm,alerting passersby. One of them made a call to the police,who arrived at the scene and arrested the two accused. According to the police,three PCR calls were made during the course of the incident the first one informing them of a scuffle,a second reporting an attempted abduction,and a third asking the police to hurry. Besides nabbing the two accused,angry passersby also damaged the windshield of their Skoda car.
Police said the duo 23-year-old Arun and 22-year-old Shekhar were travelling with Aruns relative,a classmate of Shekhar at a Mass Communication institute in Rohini. Both are final year students,they said,adding that Arun worked at an event management institute.
The incident occurred around 9 pm on Wednesday when the woman,her sister and a cousin were returning home after watching Ramlila performance. When the victims tried crossing Deepali Chowk,they were confronted by the two accused in their car.
According to police,the signal turned green while the complainants were trying to cross the road. Seeing this,the accused allegedly turned abusive. The confrontation soon turned violent,when one of them clutched at the womans hands and slapped her. Hearing the victims cries,a group of passersby gathered at the spot,nabbing the two. Following this,a PCR call was made and the accused were taken into custody.
However,while the victims told police that the men slapped and molested them,they gave a slightly different version to the media. Mediapersons were told that the accused had molested them,and later attempted to abduct them in their Skoda car.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) B S Jaiswal said,The argument was initially regarding crossing the road. On the basis of the victims statement,we have registered a case of causing hurt (323),wrongful restraint (341) and molestation (354).
