Two held for ‘molesting’ women at traffic signal

Police said the duo — 23-year-old Arun and 22-year-old Shekhar — were travelling with Arun’s relative,a classmate of Shekhar at a Mass Communication institute in Rohini. Both are final year students,they said,adding that Arun worked at an event management institute.

The incident occurred around 9 pm on Wednesday when the woman,her sister and a cousin were returning home after watching Ramlila performance. When the victims tried crossing Deepali Chowk,they were confronted by the two accused in their car.

According to police,the signal turned green while the complainants were trying to cross the road. Seeing this,the accused allegedly turned abusive. The confrontation soon turned violent,when one of them clutched at the woman’s hands and slapped her. Hearing the victims’ cries,a group of passersby gathered at the spot,nabbing the two. Following this,a PCR call was made and the accused were taken into custody.

However,while the victims told police that the men slapped and molested them,they gave a slightly different version to the media. Mediapersons were told that the accused had molested them,and later attempted to abduct them in their Skoda car.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) B S Jaiswal said,“The argument was initially regarding crossing the road. On the basis of the victim’s statement,we have registered a case of causing hurt (323),wrongful restraint (341) and molestation (354).”
