A team of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) on Tuesday caught two people in Ranchi colony who were tampering with a meter.
SDO Gurdial Singh said the team went on secret information to Threeke village where this colony was located. Reaching there, they found that the electricity meter was missing from the meter box and when they went inside the home, an employee, hired by Daljit Singh, had opened the meter and was busy tampering with it.
Gurdial said they had fined the defaulter Rs 18,000, and their anti-theft squad arrested Daljit Singh along with employee Ashwini Kumar. The squad also registered a case against the consumer. They will be produced in court on Wednesday.
He said in such cases, normally the consumers get the meter reading reversed and also get the meter to run slowly.
