Two Kerala officers script satire on ‘true nature’ of a Malayali

They say a typical Malayali is cynical, shows envy, jealousy, contempt

Two civil servants in Kerala have co-written the script for a Malayalam feature film that, according to them,is a satire on the traits of a typical Malayali envy, jealousy and contempt. Shooting for Aa Ku Pu Complex, produced and directed by V K Prakash,is set to begin in November.

As N Prasanth,a 2007-batch IAS officer, and K Ambady,a 2002-batch IIS officer, explain,Aa stands for asooya (envy),Ku for kushump (jealousy) and Pu for puchcham (contempt). The film begins with the discovery of the Malayali particle (an allusion to the God particle) by a scientist. Through the story of a young politician aspiring to become a bureaucrat,it will drive home the point that the Malayali particle is envy, jealousy and contempt.

Ambady also wrote the script for Ayal,a Malayalam film that is yet to be released. Prasanth,a blogger, writes for publications.

Prasanth calls the film a critique of politicians, bureaucrats, celebrities, visual media and reality shows. The managing director of Kerala Tourism Development Corporation,he says an opinion piece that he wrote on Keralas approach towards road development brought Ambady and him together. We completed the script in six months. Whenever possible,we sat together. Otherwise, the rough copy was e-mailed to each other, discussed and corrected.

Ambady,on deputation as director of the Kerala Coastal Area Development Corporation, sees the argumentative nature of a Malayali as the basic character of their script. A Keralite does not accept anyone. He is cynical about everything, has contempt towards everything, he says.

The industry at least is impressed two more projects by them are reportedly on the anvil.
