Two litigants say they have an Ayodhya solution

Two months after the Allahabad High Court's Ayodhya verdict, while parties on both sides have been saying they will appeal, two local residents who are among the original litigants, Hashim Ansari (for the Babri Masjid) and Mahant Gyan Das (of the Hanumangarhi Akhara), said in Ayodhya today that they would file a "written solution in the Supreme Court."

"We will wait for all petitioners in the case to reach the apex court for challenging the Allahabad High Court judgment and there we will present the formula worked out by us in a written form," Das said, according to PTI.

Yesterday, Ansari had reportedly said the formula would be made public by December 10.

There is no word on what the "solution" could be but sources close to the talks hint at a temple on the disputed land with a masjid complex on the land demarcated for it — the mosque with a west entrance and the temple with an east entrance.

Another possibility, sources said, could be of the mosque being built "close by," about 1 km away in either of two spots identified by both parties, spots that belong to Hindus, thus constituting a "peaceful exchange".

One site identified is an abandoned temple — the property of a Hindu woman who converted to Islam with the temple falling in disuse. 

Last month, talking to The Indian Express, Das had slammed "outsiders," including the VHP, for fishing in troubled Ayodhya waters. "The VHP will be interested in raising the temperature like it did in 1989, they just want to fool people by talking of Ram Lalla. Bhavya Ram Mandir ke naam pe inki dukaan chal jaayegi. We are people who have left worldly ways to pray to Ram. Who are these people? The same is for Muslims on the outside, who needlessly upped the ante. After all, people like Hashim Ansari here have fought the case silently. We want the Ram Mandir, but built with milk, not blood."
