The district police is set to attach two more properties of former parliamentarian Atiq Ahmad who is currently lodged in Lalitpur jail in connection with the murder of BSP legislator Raju Pal.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Chandra Prakash sent the report on Monday to District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar for initiating the attachment process under the Gangster Act. The process will be initiated on Friday.

On the request of the district police, revenue officials measured the land last Friday and verified the title ownership of the plots. Plot number 19 in Lukerganj area is around 2,415 sq yard and plot number 65 is 3,173 sq yard.

Haji Firoz Ahmad,Atiq’s father, has claimed that he owns the properties. The market value of the plots is around Rs 8 crore. “The two plots are benami (undisclosed) property of Atiq Ahmad taken in the name of his father,” said Prakash. “The original owners of the plots have accused Atiq and his accomplices for forcibly capturing the plots and indulging in forgery.”

Plot number 19 was originally owned by Kulsum Begum who was intimidated and forced to enter into a registered agreement with Haji Firoz in 1992. “His (Atiq) gunmen came and asked me to vacate the bungalow. They had offered me Rs 50,000,which I refused,” said Begum.

“I informed the police immediately but nobody came to my aid. Fearing a threat to my life,I left the house and settled here (Shahganj). I don’t know how he (Atiq) got it registered in his name without my signature,” added Begum.

Plot number 65 was in the name of Abdul Hafiz. Abdul had two wives — Mumtaz and Shakeena. In 1992,a dispute with a person living in the bungalow led to Atiq’s intervention and later he captured the house. “When I was pleading for help, nobody came. I finally signed an agreement with Atiq’s father against a meagre Rs 40,000,” said Nawab, son of Shakeena, who claimed that his mother had only made a sale agreement and not actually sold the property.

“On the written request of Kulsum Begum and Shakeena, the police have verified the records of the disputed land,” said Surender Singh,Inspector of Khuldabad. “The properties were registered in the name of Haji Firoz on forged documents and signatures. We have also verified the records from the Registry department and Nagar Nigam.”

Saulat Haneef,Counsel of Atiq Ahmad, said he would move the court against attachment proceedings made so far.
