Two teenaged sisters committed suicide in Chhatarpur town of Madhya Pradesh after one of them was allegedly blackmailed by two police constables with an indecent MMS filmed under duress. Deepanjali Bundela,18,and her younger sister Pushpanjali consumed a poisonous substance on Wednesday after two colleagues of the accused warned them to withdraw the complaint Deepanjali had filed a few days ago. Pushpanjali died on Wednesday while her elder sister succumbed to the poison early on Thursday,forcing the state government to rush ADG (CID) R C Arora and IG (CID) K N Tiwari from Bhopal to Chhatarpur for a detailed inquiry. Deepanjali had lodged a complaint with the Chhatarpur SP three days ago that Arvind Patel and Kanhaiyyalal Tiwari,two policemen attached to the Orchha Police Station,had been blackmailing her ever since they found her with her friend Himanshu. The complaint alleged that the cops chased Himanshu away and took her to an abandoned shop where they filmed an MMS after making her strip. The MMS was shot on Himanshus mobile. A police officer,however,said though Himanshus mobile was seized from one of the accused cop,it contained no MMS. SP P Bisht suspended the two and asked his deputy Sunil Tiwari to inquire into the incident. On Wednesday,Constables Praveen Tripathi and Dinesh Singh went to the sisters house in Vishwanath Colony while their father Rajkumar Singh,a government teacher,was away. A senior police officer claimed that the two constables had gone to the victims house to record her statement in connection with the complaint she had filed. Neighbours said they saw the girls crying after the cops had left,and accused the police of warning them with dire consequences if they failed to withdraw the complaint. When Rajkumar,a teacher posted at Angor village,about 20 km from Chhatarpur,returned home he found that both his daughters had consumed a poisonous substance. They were rushed to the Mission Hospital in Chhatarpur where the younger sister died while Deepanjali died in a hospital in Jhansi where she was referred. While a criminal complaint has been filed against Arvind Patel and Kanhyyalal,Praveen and Dinesh have been suspended. The in-charge of Orchha Police Station K K Taneja has also been placed under suspension.
