Two undertrials allegedly assaulted a police team escorting them and escaped from a moving car near Varnama village on their way back to Bharuch from Vadodara on Thursday afternoon.
The escort team of Bharuch police was on their way back to Bharuch after producing a four-men gang facing a number of cases of theft and loot, in a court in Vadodara.
However, when the car of the police reached near Varnama village on NH-8, the undertrials allegedly assaulted its driver. While Brijbhushan alias Butul Pandey and Santosh Singh ran away, the escort team caught hold of Guddu Bharati and Shiv Shankar, police said.
Besides the driver, there were three constables and an armed head constable in the escort team.
