Two-week Ahmedabad International Arts Festival begins Sunday

The Ahmedabad International Arts Festival 2012 will start on Sunday which is based on the theme "making sacred". The 14-day event will be spanned across 15 venues in the city and around 100 artists will exhibit their works in the festival. It will be concluded on October 28.

"The highlights this year will be a performance by Shubha Mudgal, an exhibition of sacred art from Kasturbhai Lalbhai collection, a festival of Sufi films and a concert of Sufi music featuring Shahi Quawals from Ajmer Sharif and Siddi Gomas from Bharuch," said festival director Anupa Mehta while addressing the media in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Exhibitions, workshops, performances and children's workshops form a part of the exciting events that will stretch over two weeks.

Other events will include sacred cloths, a two-day workshop and exhibition of carved blocks and ritual cloths, an exhibition of serigraphs, workshop with traditional artisans and installations, an exhibition of calligraphy and sacred art by Chisty Foundation, an exhibition of photographic works by Ruth Buck, listening session of sacred music, curated walk at mosques and temples.

The festival has free entry for all. It will feature devotional music and dance of Sidi African Indians from Gujarat. The venues vary from heritage homes, art galleries, art centres, mall, CEPT University, Sheth C N Vidyavihar, Sheth C N College of Fine Arts L D Museum, Upasana School of Performing Arts, Siddi Sayed ni Jali and National Institute of Design.
