Uddhav performs puja,inaugurates road works

Even as the actual construction of the new roads awaits the availability of sand,Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray ‘inaugurated’ the roads project by performing a puja at Vikhroli east where one of the new roads will be built. With an eye on the upcoming civic polls,the party is on an ‘inauguration spree’ of sorts.

Rubbishing claims on alleged corruption in the awarding of these contracts,Thackeray said that many contractors who will carry out the work are also working for the state controlled MMRDA. “The charges of corruption are baseless and politically motivated. We promise that these new roads will remain pothole free at least for the next two years. The present municipal commissioner Subodh Kumar is so strict and efficient that he would not allow corruption within the civic body,” he said.

Taking a dig at the Congress-led state government,Thackeray said instead of focusing on which slums to regularise and what should be the time deadline for legal and illegal slums,the government should be focusing in providing better civic amenities in these slums. “The BMC does not have enough authority to carry out rehabilitation in the slums. The government’s focus has not been on improving the slums,” he said.

It is also important to note that the place where Thackeray chose to conduct the ceremony out of the 160 new roads to be built,falls under the constituency of MNS MLA and MNS leader in the BMC Mangesh Sangle.

At the same event,Mayor Shraddha Jadhav said the Sena was not merely inaugurating projects with an eye on the elections but has been doing work throughout the past five years.
