Uddhav set to become Sena president tomorrow

Uddhav Thackeray will formally take over the reins of Shiv Sena at a party national executive meet on Wednesday. The meeting has been called to coincide with the birthday of founder-president Bal Thackeray. Uddhav, who is executive president overseeing day-to-day party work, will get all the powers enjoyed by his father as Sena 'pramukh' (chief).

Bal Thackeray will, however, keep the title.

After his father's demise, Uddhav had said he would not become Sena 'pramukh'.

In subsequent interviews to party mouthpiece 'Saamana' and in public meetings, he reiterated Bal Thackeray would always remain party 'pramukh'.

The national executive will create a new post of 'president'.

"A meeting will be held at Sena Bhavan on January 23 which will elect Uddhav president. Balasaheb will remain 'pramukh' (chief) of the party," said a Sena leader.
