Uddhav Thackeray in Delhi, set to meet L K Advani

Sena is known to have reservations about projecting Narendra Modi as NDA's PM candidate.

Signalling a change in his party’s style of functioning,Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray arrived in the Capital on Thursday evening. Besides calling on BJP leader L K Advani,he has a series of engagements lined up for the next two days.

In contrast, party founder Bal Thackeray preferred to call the shots from Mumbai. So senior leaders like A B Vajpayee,RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and Advani had to go to his residence,Matoshree,in Mumbai instead. His nephew and MNS chief Raj Thackeray has also chosen to stay away from Delhi.

Uddhav’s meeting with Advani is significant as the Sena is known to have reservations about projecting Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the NDA’s prime ministerial candidate, apparently because of Modi’s proximity to Raj Thackeray.

Uddhav is also slated to address the general body meeting of ASSOCHAM on Friday. This has been organised by the party’s Rajya Sabha member and industrialist Rajkumar Dhoot, who is reported to have flown in planeloads of Sena MLAs,MPs and other leaders also.

JD(U) president Sharad Yadav is expected to meet Uddhav at the residence of Sena Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut tomorrow. BJP leader S S Ahluwalia is also likely to call on Uddhav. The Sena leader is scheduled to wind up his Delhi visit with a press conference on Saturday.
